Healthy Weight Loss Tips

1.) Drink water! Your body needs to stay hydrated. Start your morning off with a cool glass of water. Water does so many good things for your body. It flushes out toxins, helps fill you up so you don’t overeat, and metabolizes stored fat. Water affects every aspect of your health so do not skimp on the water.

2.) Eat plenty of fresh fruit. Fruit is naturally sweet and full of fiber. When you have a craving for something sweet reach for a peach or other fruit.

Caution: Fruit juice is not the same. Fruit juice is full of sugar and should be avoided except in small doses. If you drink fruit juice try to buy fresh.

3.) Eat fiber. Fiber is important to weight loss and maintaining your ideal weight. Sources of good fiber is fruit, vegetables, whole grains and legumes.

4.) Avoid fried foods. They are loaded with fat and calories which is not good for your weight or general health.

5.) Limit alcoholic beverages. They are full of sugar. Some are worse than others but it is best to limit the alcohol. Not only are they full of calories but they will cause you to eat more also. After a few drinks you don’t care a whole lot about your diet.

6.) If you drink tea or coffee go easy on the cream and sugar. If possible stick to black tea or coffee. A little black tea or coffee can be beneficial. I think tea is better for you than coffee. Coffee has an alkaloid which can affect metabolism.

7.) Do not skip meals! If you skip meals your body will go into starvation mode and store fat instead of burning calories. Eat at least 3 balanced meals a day and a couple of healthy snacks in between.

8.) Eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Your body needs fuel to produce energy to get you through the day. And breakfast is not a cookie, donut, or muffin. Your body needs a combination of protein, complex carbohydrates, and a little fat.

9.) Go easy on the salt. Not only is salt bad for your health but it also causes you to hold water. Salt also causes elevated blood pressure, heart disease and obesity.

10.) Exercise as much as possible. If you don’t have time to walk daily then just move. Move when you are talking on the phone instead of sitting. Get up and dance to music. While cooking do squats or just move your legs.

packing a healthy lunch boxIt’s a daily challenge: who doesn’t struggle for inspiration on what to put into their child’s lunch box each morning?

Who doesn’t wonder whether the food they’re giving their child for lunch provides enough nutrients?

And what parent doesn’t suspect that it may come home uneaten anyway?
The main things to remember are that a healthy lunch box should be enjoyable, filling and provide enough energy to sustain your children over several hours of work and play.

Going green

going greenHow to get kids to eat fruit and vegetables
Getting children to eat the five portions of fruit and vegetables a day
recommended by the World Health Organisation and the UK’s Food
Standards Agency can be a struggle. On average, children in the UK only eat two portions of fruit and veg a day way short of the recommended amount!

This means that many are missing out on important nutrients. As well as being a great source of fibre, fruit and vegetables are rich in vitamins (especially disease-fighting vitamins A and C), minerals and other important plant nutrients, which help keep children healthy and boost their immunity.

Muesli with fruit and nutsMuesli with fruit and nuts
This muesli is very easy to make. I like to soak the oats overnight – they’re nicer when they’re soft and have absorbed the flavours of the dried fruit. Oats are rich in soluble fibre, which helps regulate blood
sugar and insulin levels as well as reduce cholesterol levels. They also supply B vitamins, iron, magnesium and zinc. Nuts are rich in vitamin E, essential fatty acids and protein.
